Here are a few of my favourite places to shoot close to home:
The Three Coulees
Located just a few miles from Abernethy, the Three Coulees offer stunning views and a variety of backdrops. With rolling hills, winding creeks, and an abundance of trees, this area is both diverse and scenic. In the summer, the hills are lush with greenery, while fall brings vibrant colours to the trees. You might also spot wildlife like deer and birds or even some of the neighbours cows and horses! This is one of my favourite places to shoot because of the endless background options and the natural beauty that changes with every season.
Motherwell Homestead
Just a few minutes from Abernethy, the Motherwell Homestead is an incredible location with character and history. The property features a beautifully preserved stone house, a historic red barn, and tree-lined walking paths that change with the seasons. The well-kept grounds offer a beautiful variety of scenic views, providing a classic and picturesque backdrop for any photoshoot.
The Surrounding Lakes
The multiple lakes in this area offer a variety of stunning locations, with a mix of rugged shorelines, sandy beaches, tree-lined trails, and lake views from the hills, making them an ideal spot for photoshoots. From the popular shores of Katepwa Lake to the serene, tree-lined banks of Pasqua Lake, each lake has its own unique character, offering a beautiful and ever-changing backdrop throughout the seasons.
Country Roads & Open Fields
Sometimes, the best locations are the simplest ones. With miles of country roads and endless fields, the rural landscape offers a variety of stunning photoshoot opportunities. Whether it’s the vibrant yellow canola fields in full bloom, the golden wheat fields in late summer, or the frosty trees and snow-covered landscapes in winter, there’s always a perfect backdrop for your session.
My Backyard
Which is pretty big, considering I live on a farm! I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the property we live and farm on, discovering new spots for photos along the way. With each season, life on the farm changes—fields grow, animals roam, and the landscape shifts. Thanks to my boyfriend Ross, who’s worked hard to clean up overgrown areas and create new paths, the property only becomes more photogenic. Year after year, there’s always a fresh perspective and endless possibilities for photoshoots.
Respecting Private Property
Some of the beautiful locations I shoot at are on private land. I’ve been fortunate to receive permission from landowners to use these spots, and I always check in with them before each session. Respecting private and public property is a top priority. If you’re interested in a session at one of these locations, I’ll handle all the arrangements to make sure we have permission to be there.
